Police: Bangor man assaults woman over cat litter box

By Ryan McLaughlin, BDN Staff

BANGOR, Maine — Police arrested a 43-year-old local man Saturday morning after he assaulted a woman over a cat box.

Danny Reed was at a Market Street residence Saturday morning visiting another woman when the assault took place, according to Bangor police Sgt. Kevin MacLaren.

Shortly after 10 a.m., the victim came to the apartment that Reed was staying in and asked the renter if she could use her phone, the sergeant said.

Reed subsequently started yelling at her and told the victim “the entire building stinks because she doesn’t clean out her cat box,” MacLaren said.

Reed, whom police said was visibly intoxicated, pushed the victim down to the floor of a common entryway and hit her with his hand after she left the apartment, the sergeant said.

Reed was arrested and booked on charges of assault and disorderly conduct. He was taken to Penobscot County Jail and later released on bail.
