College roundup: Maine women’s soccer team beats Lowell for sixth victory

ORONO, Maine — Jordan Pellerin, Charlene Achille and Maggie Malone each scored a goal in the University of Maine’s 3-1 victory over UMass Lowell in women’s soccer action Thursday.

Maine took a 1-0 halftime lead when Pellerin scored off an Eve L’Abbe cross and UMass Lowell tied it on an own goal by Maine early in the second half.

Nikki Misener and Joanie L’Abbe each notched assists on Maine’s two second-half goals as the Black Bears improved to 6-3-4 overall and 3-0-1 in America East.

Maine outshot Lowell 27-6 with Lowell’s Jane Hatzikonstantis making 10 saves and Maine’s Lauren Swant finishing with two.

At Fort Kent on Wednesday, UMaine-Fort Kent scored eight second-half goals en route to the victory over UM-Machias.

Kennard Brown led the UMFK attack with three goals and an assist. Jamie Cleland made seven saves for 11-0 UMFK while Luis Herera made five for 12-2 UMM.
