TREMONT, Maine — The Hancock County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a burglary at a local storage facility where someone broke into more than a dozen separate units.

The break-ins were reported around 4 p.m. Tuesday, hours after they appear to have occurred, by a woman who rents one of the units, Deputy Sheriff Jeff McFarland said Wednesday evening.

“The padlocks were cut on them,” McFarland said. “We’re fairly sure that it happened [Tuesday].”

The deputy said some items are missing from the units but he declined to specify what may have been taken. Most of the units, he added, are rented by year-round residents.

McFarland declined to release additional information about the case, including the name of the storage business or where in Tremont it is located. The case remains under investigation, he said.
