Colby men’s soccer team shuts out UMF

FARMINGTON — The Colby Mules capitalized on two own goals by the University of Maine-Farmington, both on errant clearing attempts, to earn a 5-0 nonconference men’s soccer victory on Wednesday afternoon.

Charlie Dupee, Keith Chernin and Jonathan Sommer each scored a second-half goal for Colby College of Waterville (4-5), while Matt Giron and Dan Vogel added assists. Peter Quayle made one save.

Ronie Morales came up with 12 saves to pace the University of Maine-Farmington (2-7-1).

Women’s Soccer

UMFK 6, UMM 0

At Fort Kent, Katherine Ferland scored twice and Kimika Forbes made six saves as the Bengals shut out the Clippers.

Brianna Mills, Kayla Richards, Marie-Laurence Montagne and Ariane Laberge-Pelletier scored a goal apiece for 9-1 University of Maine-Fort Kent. RIchards, Ashleigh Williams, Vitoria Dubois-Iredale, and Montagne provided assists.

Jessica Bickford made six saves for UMaine-Machias (9-3).

Colby 8, Husson 1

At Waterville, Abby Hatch scored two goals and set up another to power the Mules to victory over the Eagles.

Amelia Barnett, Hallie Hesslein and Ruthie Hawley contributed a goal and an assist each for 4-4 Colby, while Alex Yorke, Cami Notaro and Janie O’Halloran tallied a goal apiece.

Ashley Conley and Emily Brook combined to make four saves.

Shaunna Beaudoin scored an unassisted goal for 5-7-1 Husson University of Bangor. Jess Poulin and Jaclyn MacDonald combined forced to make 10 saves.

UM-Farmington 2, USM 2

At Gorham, Kelly Burrell scored the tying goal with 1:38 remaining in regulation to help the Huskies earn a double-overtime tie against the Beavers.

Ava Amador and Kayla Tuttle scored first-half goals to stake the University of Maine-Farmington (5-5-2) to a two-goal lead. Bridget Humphrey and Amador contributed assists while Beth Lebel had eight stops.

Jordan Grant scored the other goal while Becca Tanous had an assist for the University of Southen Maine (4-7-1). Katie Cobb posted nine saves.

Field Hockey

Lasell 2, Saint Joseph’s 1

At Newton, Mass., Cristina Wilson scored off the second of two Ashley Gleason’s assists midway through the second half to lift the Lasers to a North Atlantic Conference win over the Monks.

Sam Smithers scored the other goal for Lasell (7-5, 2-1 NAC), while Taylor Smithers made nine saves.

Theresa Hendrix scored on a Rachel Messuri assist for Saint Joseph’s College of Standish (8-2, 3-2 NAC). Emma Astbury manned the net.
