MILO – Edward Charles Schmidt Jr., 85, passed away peacefully, Oct. 5, 2013, at his home with his family by his side. He was born June 14, 1928, in Bay City, Mich., the son of Edward Sr. and Agnes (Gwisdalle) Schmidt.
Edward served in the U.S. Army for 26 years as a medical equipment maintenance specialist. After his retirement from the military, Edward moved to Milo and worked as a gunsmith. He had a real love for the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. Edward was a member of the Knights of Columbus, and the J.P. Chaisson American Legion Post No. 41.
He is survived by his loving wife, Annemarieae Schmidt of Milo; his son, Edward C. Schmidt III and his wife, Betsy, of Aurora, Ill.; his daughter, Dr. Katherine Ann Schmidt of Orono; his sister, Martha Rouland of Bay City, Mich.; and several nieces and nephews. Edward was predeceased by four siblings, James, Rosemary, Romaine, and Carol.
Visitations will be held 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 9, at Lary Funeral Home, Milo. A Mass of Christian burial will be conducted 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 10, at St. Francis Xavier and Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, Milo, with the Rev. Joseph Cahill officiating. Burial with military honors will be at 9 a.m. Friday, Oct. 11, at Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Augusta. Condolences and memories may be expressed at www.laryfuneralhome.com.
