MACHIAS and ROQUE BLUFFS – Beverly A. Haley passed away at an Ellsworth nursing facility on Oct. 1, 2013, at the age of 92. Beverly was born April 20, 1921, in Norridgewock, the daughter of George and Gladys (Parlin) Fairfield.
She grew up in Augusta and Madison, graduating from Madison High School. She moved to Machias over 60 years ago and was very active in the community, fostering many dear friendships. She was a member of the Eastern Star, the Machias Extension Club and was a great bowler on the “Rotary Anns” League. She and her husband, Clarence “Tommy” Thompson owned and operated the well-known and popular Tommy’s Lunch on Main Street in Machias and Beverly continued its management several years after his death. An excellent cook, her pies were a daily specialty. She later worked in the cafeteria at Down East Community Hospital. Beverly’s family fondly remembers all the wonderful holiday celebrations, her love of cooking and how she enjoyed “putting on a spread” for family and friends at her home in Machias and later in Roque Bluffs. She was happiest with her family around her and dearly loved her grandchildren. She and husband, Jim, were married over 30 years and loved their life at the Bluffs and their many happy winters in Bradenton, Fla. For the past six years she lived at Sunbury Village in Bangor where she made many new friends and enjoyed the activities, music and dancing. Our family thanks her Sunbury everyday angels, Andra Medina and Sally Eastman and special friends, Amy White, Melissa Sellars, and Marcia Cook.
Survivors include her children, Vicki Palmer and husband, Edwin, of Franklin, Peter Thompson and wife, Leimomi, of Kingfield and Dee Ann Thompson of Solon; her grandchildren, Thomas Palmer and wife, Bobbie, of Sorrento, Jeffrey Palmer and wife, Margurite, of Portland, Ore., Max Thompson and wife, Marie, of Bangor, Laura Thompson of Amherst, Ryan Schoppee and wife, Laurie, of Machiasport, Heidi Kimball of Skowhegan, Hillary White and husband, Chad, of Athens and Dylan Alley of Jonesport; and her great-grandchildren include, Kassandra Carey, Willa, Juliette and Sven Thompson, Ryan and Jacob Schoppee and Sophie and Jacob White.
