AUGUSTA, Maine — Two men were indicted by a Kennebec County Grand Jury on Friday after allegedly tying a man to a chair and holding him at knifepoint in Chelsea from July 16-17.

Eugene R. Charleston, 19, of Manhattan, N.Y., and Ricardo David Perry, 19, of Lancaster, Pa., are both indicted on three felony charges.

The pair were indicted on single counts of Class A kidnapping, Class B aggravated assault and Class C terrorizing.

According to Lt. David Tripp of the Maine State Police, the victim texted police around 6:30 a.m. July 17 that two young men tied him up in a chair and were holding him at knifepoint.

A trooper was able to make contact with the victim, who wound up freeing himself despite the suspects in close proximity, Tripp said.

The victim ran out of the house with the suspects in pursuit, Tripp said, but when the suspects saw police, they fled in different directions.

They didn’t get far, as troopers managed to capture Perry and Charleston. They were put into custody quickly, the lieutenant said.

The men face up to 30 years in prison and a maximum $50,000 fine for the Class A kidnapping charge. The Class B charge has a prison term of up to 10 years and a top fine of $20,000. The Class C charge has a prison term of up to five years and a maximum fine of $5,000.
