Registered sex offender charged with attempted gross sexual assault in Kennebunk

KENNEBUNK, Maine — A Kennebunk man has been charged with attempted gross sexual assault after a report of a domestic dispute.

Police arrested Herman W. Cohen, 31, of Kennebunk about 8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, charging him with the felony count. Police were dispatched to the residence for a reported domestic dispute after a 911 call made by the victim, according to Kennebunk police Lt. Tony Bean Burpee.

Cohen was transported to the York County Jail where bail was set at $10,000 cash. He was arraigned on the charge Monday in Springvale District Court and is due in York County Superior Court on Oct. 23.

Cohen is a registered sex offender in the state of Maine as a result of a 2007 unlawful sexual assault conviction.

Following an investigation after the Sept. 28 incident, police obtained several search warrants for the Kimball Lane residence. While evidence was seized, police are not releasing further information at this time.

The York County District Attorney’s Office is currently reviewing the case and additional charges may be added.
