HOLLIS, Maine — Police from four agencies collaborated to arrest two men in a string of burglaries in York County and New Hampshire.
George Sproul, 20, of Limington and Harley Herman, 20, of Sanford were both arrested on Saturday in connection with multiple burglaries in Hollis, according to Department of Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland.
Police believe most of the burglaries took place on or around Sept. 20, according to McCausland. In once instance, Herman and Sproul encountered an armed homeowner.
The thieves are also believed to have committed a burglary in Alton Bay, N.H., in which a pickup truck, ATV and firearm were stolen, McCausland said. Computers, TVs, jewelry and three other firearms were recovered after the men were arrested.
McCausland said the burglars targeted homes with no cars in the driveway and kicked down doors to gain entry.
Both men are being held at the York County Jail on three charges apiece of burglary and receiving stolen property. Maine State Police, York County sheriff’s deputies, Alton Bay, N.H., police and Sanford police collaborated on the investigation.
Bail was set at $15,000 for Sproul and Herman. More arrests are likely in the case.
