Rawson’s goal in OT lifts unbeaten Old Town field hockey team past Orono

OLD TOWN — Kate Rawson scored an unassisted goal 5:56 minutes into overtime to lead the Old Town Coyotes to a 1-0 high school field hockey victory over the Orono Red Riots during a Monday showdown between two top teams in the Greater Bangor area.

Erica Ogden had one save on goal for the Coyotes and Jessica Miller had 11 saves on 34 shots for Orono.

Old Town, the No. 1-ranked team in Eastern Maine Class B, improved to 9-01. Orono, ranked sixth in EM Class C, slipped to 7-2-1.

JV: 0-0

In other field hockey games on Monday, Mattanawcook Academy of LIncoln tied Dexter 2-2 in overtime and Central of Corinth beat Stearns of Millinocket 3-1.

Mattanawcook 2, Dexter 2

At Lincoln, Mattanawcook’s Courtney McIntyre scored the tying goal with no time left on the clock in the second half off a penalty corner to send the game into overtime against Dexter. The game remained tied after two overtimes.

McIntyre scored both of her team’s goals and Maci Tash assisted on the tying goal for the 4-5-1 Lynx.

Kaitie Batran and Peyton Watson scored goals in the first half for the 6-2-1 Tigers.

Mattanawcook goalie Lauren Page had 5 saves on 12 shots and Kaitlyn Paquin had 7 saves on 16 shots for Dexter.

JV: Dexter 2-0

Central 3, Stearns 1

At East Corinth, Hailey Mailman, Hillary Williams and Hannah Weeks each scored a goal to lift Central past the Stearns Minutemen.

Jacklynn McKay and Cheyenne Edgerly each had an assist for the Red Devils.

Jessica Girsa scored the lone goal for Stearns of Millinocket.

Goalkeepers Mikayla Boudreau made 9 saves for Central and Angela Guy made 8 saves on 15 shots for Stearns.
