ROCKLAND, Maine — City government buildings will be closed Friday, Oct. 4, for safety and wellness training.

City hall, the recreation center, library and transfer station will be closed as part of this daylong program.

City employees will gather at the Strand Theatre for an 8 a.m. presentation by national workplace safety expert Charles Moorecraft.

The employees will then gather at the newly created Ferry Terminal Park for a memorial tree dedication in memory of Becky Dow, a longtime city employee who died in February 2012 at age 60 from cancer.

Other events planned for the day include fire extinguisher training, smoking cessation and other wellness programs, sexual harassment and abuse prevention programs and a program on workplace violence.

The fire and police departments will be on duty.
