BAR HARBOR – Robert J. Tait, 19, of Bar Harbor, died as a Prisoner of War during the Korean Conflict, on Feb. 15, 1951. He was born on June 23, 1932, in Palmyra, a son of James and Ida (Carr) Tait.
Robert grew up around Palmyra and Bar Harbor. He joined the U.S. Army when he was 17.
He is survived by his two sisters, Teresa and her husband, Arthur McQuin, and Iona Strout, both of Bar Harbor; and many nieces and nephews. Robert was predeceased by his parents; and brother, Milan.
Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 5, at Ledgelawn Cemetery with full military honors. Contributions in Robert’s memory may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 501 St., Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1905. Arrangements by Jordan-Fernald, 1139 Main St., Mount Desert.
