BUCKSPORT – Arline F. Locke, 88, died Monday, Sept. 23, 2013, at Penobscot Nursing Home. She was born March 29, 1925, in Blue Hill, the daughter of Morton and Laura (Candage) Gray.
She graduated from Bangor High School. She was a loving foster mother for many years, she loved to garden and write poetry. Arline taught Sunday school for many years and worked at H.O.M.E. Co-Op.
She is survived by one daughter, Joanne Pelkey of Oklahoma; grandchildren, Rachel Locke of Stonington, Laura Fernald and husband, Scott, Mark Davenport and wife, Jennifer, all of Bucksport, Amy Davenport of Bangor, Eric Pelkey of Florida, Crystal Hill and husband, Mitchell, of South Carolina, Stacey Scott of Gouldsboro, and Lisa Ripley of Belfast; 15 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandsons. She was predeceased by her husband, James Locke; four children, France Rankin, David Locke, Sharyn Betts, and Barry Locke; two brothers, Arnold Gray and Weldon Gray; and one sister, Marjorie Gray.
A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 3, at North Bucksport United Methodist Church, River Road, with Pastor Peter Remick officiating, burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery. Donations in Arline’s memory may be made to Maine Affiliate of Susan G. Komen, P.O. Box 602, Brewer, ME 04412-0602. Arrangements are under the direction of Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 28 Elm St., Bucksport.
