BANGOR, Maine — An argument at a birthday party early Friday morning led to one man going to jail after things got physical between him and his girlfriend, police said.

Hugh Hill, 47, of Howland and numerous others had been celebrating Hill’s girlfriend’s birthday when things started to get out of hand around 4 a.m. Friday, Bangor police Lt. Paul Edwards said.

Police had responded to an address on Union Street when it was reported multiple people were arguing and fighting, according to Edwards.

Hill was apparently getting in multiple people’s faces and arguing, the lieutenant said, and he and his girlfriend eventually started to argue, which led to him pushing her.

Once police observed that, he was quickly arrested and charged with domestic violence assault and brought to Penobscot County Jail, where he remains.

Hill was the lone one arrested in the incident, Edwards said.
