ROCKPORT, Maine — The town planning board is expected to consider a proposal for a 22-unit housing development off Route 1.

The board held a pre-application meeting last month with the developer of the project, Ridge at Rockport. A preliminary application is expected to be submitted to the board and reviewed at the panel’s Nov. 13 meeting.

The new neighborhood would be located on 11 acres located between the Village at Rockport residential subdivision and Plants Unlimited.

Anthony Casella, developer of Ridge at Rockport, built the adjacent 48-unit Village at Rockport. Casella purchased the 11 acres, previously owned by Ferraiolo Construction, at a foreclosure auction in July.

The current proposal for the development calls for a mix of single-unit cottages, duplexes and some two-story buildings. An outdoor swimming pool and community building would be located closer to the road with the homes further back from Route 1.

The only other project before the planning board is a proposed 195-foot tower for Verizon Wireless on Ragged Mountain adjacent to the current tower near the Camden town line.

That project is scheduled to be reviewed Oct. 9.
