SUNBURY, Pa. — A celebration of Melissa J. Moyer’s life will be held Oct. 5 at Spy Ridge Winery, including live music, kids’ activities and a sky lantern release.

Moyer, a Sunbury resident, was on vacation in Maine when she and a friend, five-months pregnant Amy Stiner of Machias, drowned in a van after accidentally driving into the Atlantic Ocean on a rainy, foggy evening last July.

Grief-stricken family members planned the Festival of Life for Moyer, which will include several live bands, including Timothy’s Burden, Counterfeit Dreams, Duck Duck Goose and Willie Jack and the Northern Light.

There will be children’s games, raffles, a photo booth courtesy of Jade Boetsch and Chris Bucher and tattoo artists from Body Mods in Sunbury.

Free overnight camping at the winery will be allowed.

The day will kick off at noon Saturday, Oct. 5, with a motorcycle run at from Beiters in Sunbury to the winery. The gates open at 1 p.m. and live performances will begin at 3 p.m.

The cost to attend is $15 for adults, $5 for children between 6 and 12 and free for kids 5 and under. Tickets are available at the winery, from Megan Aikey at 570-556-8151 or Deb Moyer at 570-809-0104.

Proceeds will benefit a local autism charity and a trust established for Moyer’s 13-year-old son.
