Germaine Cyr


MADAWASKA – Germaine Cyr, 89, passed away Sunday, Sept. 22, 2013, at Northern Maine Medical Center. She was born Dec. 16, 1923, daughter of the late Denis and Philomene (Gendreau) Lagasse.
She was a graduate of Madawaska High School, class of 1943. After graduation, she aided the war effort by working at the Colt Factory in Connecticut. She moved back to Madawaska and was employed by Fraser Paper as a Paper inspector in the finishing room. Germaine was an avid reader and loved music. She also enjoyed traveling and did so often with her daughter and family. She visited places such as Sedona, Ariz., Cocoa Beach, Fla., Key West, Fla., and New Orleans. Later in life, she was always willing and eager to participate in all activities while she was a resident of Ridgewood Estates and Highview Manor.
Germaine is survived by her daughter, Armande Marston of Madawaska; and three grandsons, Lee Marston and his wife, Nicole, of Portland, Douglas Marston and his wife, Jennifer, of Windham, and Greg Marston and his wife, Kristin, of Brewer. She also leaves behind four great-grandchildren, Noah, Trip, Jake, and Iyla. In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her husband, Armand; two brothers, Oniel and Fernand Lagasse; four sisters, Jeannette White, Antoinette Therrien, Alvine Lagasse, and Laurette Dechaine.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 26, at St. Thomas Aquinas Church. Relatives and friends are invited to greet the family 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept 25, at Lajoie Funeral Home, Madawaska.
