PORTLAND, Maine — The Maine Red Claws professional basketball team announced a slate of hirings Thursday that includes a Harpswell native who previously worked for the NBA’s New York Knicks and New Orleans Hornets.
The Red Claws, which play in Portland and are the Development League affiliate of the Boston Celtics, announced the hiring of Will McClaran as the team’s new director of public and community relations.
McClaran is a Harpswell native who worked in the communications departments of the Knicks and Hornets before returning to Maine to work at Portland public relations firm Kemp Goldberg Partners. In his new role with the Red Claws, McClaran will serve as the team’s primary contact for the media, as well as oversee team donations and public appearances.
Other hirings announced Thursday include University of Southern Maine graduate Sandra Eustis-Brackett as team office manager, Appleton native Erika Johnson as public relations and operations assistant, former team account executive Adam Skibek as ticket sales manager and St. Joseph’s College graduate Chris Taylor — who worked in the offices of the Triple-A baseball affiliates of the St. Louis Cardinals and Los Angeles Dodgers — for a job in ticket sales.
The Red Claws will begin their fifth season in November. The team’s most recognizable alumnus is Celtics guard Avery Bradley, who played in Portland in early 2011 and went on to claim the starting job in Boston the following season. During the most recent NBA season, Bradley battled injuries but finished with 9.2 points, 2.1 assists and 1.3 steals per game over 50 games.
