SACO, Maine — A short vehicle pursuit concluded with the arrest of a Saco man on multiple charges, police said.

Saco officers and Maine Drug Enforcement Agency officials had conducted a traffic stop on Vaughn Hanson, 45, after it was suspected he and two others were engaged in drug activity, Saco Deputy Chief Jeff Holland said.

Shortly after police arrived, the Jeep Grand Cherokee the suspects were in took off down Water Street, Holland said, and the short pursuit turned onto Lincoln, Spring and Bradley streets before ending with a car crash on New County Road, according to Holland.

Hanson and his passengers, Kayla Busha, 18, and Anthony Jarra, 28, of Old Orchard Beach were all detained, Holland said.

The occupants of the Honda that Hanson struck, Sally Wellsman, 76, and her husband, Harry, 80, of Parsonfield, suffered minor injuries and were treated at Maine Medical Center in Portland.

Hanson was also treated at Maine Medical Center, and upon his release, he was booked on charges of eluding a police officer, aggravated criminal mischief and reckless conduct, Holland said. He was brought to York County Jail, where he was unable to post $2,500 bail.

Hanson’s passengers were not charged or injured, Holland said, and the incident remains under investigation. Both vehicles were totaled.
