MILLINOCKET, Maine — Police are on the lookout for three men who reportedly broke into a Kelley Lane home Wednesday night, stole prescription medications and pepper sprayed the homeowner.
The incident occurred shortly after 10:30 p.m., while the homeowner was lying on the couch watching television, Millinocket police Sgt. Gary Lakeman said Thursday.
“The homeowner reported he heard a noise in the kitchen and [when he went in to see what was happening], there was three male subjects with bandanas over their faces. One of them had a bottle of his prescription drugs in his hand,” Lakeman said.
“He yelled at them as he was leaving his residence. They were right by the door when he confronted them,” the sergeant said. “As he yelled and went toward them, one of the subjects sprayed him in the face with pepper spray.”
The group got away with a bottle of prescription drugs, Lakeman said. He declined to say what kind of medication was stolen but added that it was a “good score for them, unfortunately.”
Lakeman said the three suspects, who fled in a small dark car, are described as slim young males who appeared to be between roughly 18 and 24 years of age.
“We do have some leads that we can’t talk about,” he said.
The homeowner did not require medical attention.
“He only got it in one eye a little bit, so he washed his eye out and was fine,” Lakeman said.
Lakeman and Millinocket police Officer David Sennett, along with East Millinocket police and a state game warden who was in the area at the time, checked the outskirts of town and roads heading out of town but did not encounter the suspect vehicle.
Anyone with information about the robbery or the suspects’ whereabouts should call Lakeman or Detective Jerry Cox of the Millinocket Police Department through the Penobscot Regional Communication Center at 800-432-7911.
