Kinetic, blue men bang their way into the state next month. The high-energy Blue Man Group comes to Bangor on Oct. 10 at the Cross Insurance Center, and just announced tour dates in Portland Oct. 11 and 12 at Merrill Auditorium.
Tickets are still available for both venues, but they are going fast.
“If interested, people should come and get more,” said Chip Kibort, director of marketing for Portland Ovations, the arts organization presenting the Portland shows. Blue Men Group was last in Portland in February 2011.
The theater group that formed in 1987 in Manhattan has become a Broadway smash and global attraction.
Experimental music, theatrical percussions, colored lights and bald blue men cavort on stage in this well-choreographed spectacle.
Much has been added through the decades. On this tour a new sound, set, and video design is anchored by an LED curtain for a “high impact visual experience,” according to press material.
“Our theatrical productions take a humorous look at what we like to call 2.5-D space,” says Blue Man Group Co-Founder Philip Stanton, in a prepared statement. “An example of what we mean by this would be emailing or texting the person in the next office rather than walking over to talk to them face-to-face.”
Tickets for Blue Man Group in Portland range from $45 to $70 for the general public. To purchase visit www.portlandovations.org, contact PortTIX at 207-842-0800 or stop by the box office window at Merrill Auditorium.
As part of Broadway’s Bests in Bangor, Blue Man Group tickets went on sale earlier this summer at the Cross Insurance Center. This week, the promoter released a few scattered seats at $47 and up. Call the box office at 561-8333.
