“The Harlem Globetrotters have been a staple event in this community for years now, and we’re excited to have them be a part of the Cross Insurance Center’s grand-opening events,” said Global Spectrum’s Mike Dyer, general manager of the Cross Insurance Center.
Fans in Bangor will witness the Globetrotters 2014 tour more than three months before fans see it across the country. The team is planning a new show, complete with a few surprises. Before arriving to Maine, the Globetrotters will spend the first part of this month participating in training camp in New York City, preparing for the team’s 88th consecutive year.
“We are thrilled to be part of an exciting time in Northern New England, as we help open Bangor’s new arena,” said Globetrotters CEO Kurt Schneider. “The fervor of our fans to see the Globetrotters’ 2014 tour, combined with the Cross Insurance Center’s grand opening, will make this a weekend to remember.”
Also new this year is the addition of the Globetrotters skills clinics on the court of Cross Insurance Center. Team stars will host clinics for children ages 6 to12 at 1 p.m. daily, including Friday when Bangor schools are closed. Globetrotters will be on the court for each two-hour session and will coach, motivate, and entertain participating children. The one-of-a-kind experience is open to boys and girls of all skill levels.
