Urban Art Workshop
BANGOR, Maine — Urban Art Workshop: Bangor as CityScape with University of Maine assistant art professor Ed Nadeau will be held 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5 and 12, at the University of Maine Museum of Art, 40 Harlow St.
The cost is $65 UMMA members, $75 others.
Loosely based on the new Urban Art movement, the workshop is designed with the sketchbook as the centerpiece and catalyst for creativity.
On the first Saturday of the workshop, participants will walk to various locales in the downtown Bangor to sketch its geographical, architectural and urban features. During the week the students will create larger more complete artwork based on these sketches. The work will be due and a critique will take place on the following Saturday.
Class topics will include perspective drawing, cityscape, the human form in the environment, the importance of a diary sketchbook, creating a drawing a day and how to transform a sketch into a fully developed piece of art.

Surprise theater production
BANGOR, Maine — Penobscot Theatre Company announced the surprise production of its wildly popular production “Forever Plaid.” The original four Plaids will take the stage Dec. 31-Jan. 5 in 1950s doo-wop musical for six performances.
The show features more than two dozen hit songs including “Three Coins in A Fountain,” “Chain Gang,” “Day-O,” “Cry” and “Heart and Soul.”
The production will feature Nathan Halvorson, Ben Layman, Joshua Schmersal and Dominick Varney as The Plaids. Music Director Colin Graebert will lead a three-piece band. Direction and choreography is by Nathan Halvorson.
Tickets are $30, $15 students and subscribers. Regular tickets, available Nov. 1, are $40, $20 students.
Beatles tribute band
BREWER, Maine — Beatles For Sale, a New England Beatles tribute band, announced that it will perform a concert at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 2, at the Brewer Performing Arts Center, 92 Pendleton St.
