WISCASSET, Maine — Two Wiscasset residents and two people from Brooklyn, N.Y., have been indicted for drug trafficking after drug enforcement agents say they ran a New York-to-Maine heroin pipeline.

Angel Miranda, 35, and Amandalee Ayala, 26, both of Brooklyn, N.Y., were each indicted on one count of Class A aggravated trafficking in scheduled drugs and one count of Class C illegal import of scheduled drugs, according to court documents.

Travis Crowley, 31, and Carol Crowley, 25, both of Wiscasset, were each indicted by a Lincoln County grand jury on two counts of Class B trafficking in scheduled drugs and one count of unlawful possession of scheduled drugs.

Wiscasset police officers arrested Miranda and Ayala during a traffic stop early in the morning of Aug. 9, Maine Drug Enforcement Agency Cmdr. Scott Pelletier said at the time.

Police allegedly seized 21 grams of heroin from the pair as they headed to Maine from New York.

The Crowleys were also arrested Aug. 9 after MDEA agents from the Mid Coast District Task Force, with officers from the Wiscasset Police Department and Lincoln County and Sagadahoc County sheriffs’ offices, executed a search warrant at their Wiscasset home.

Pelletier said at the time that agents seized more than three grams of heroin, as well as inositol, a substance the couple allegedly was using to cut the heroin. Also seized were methadone, Suboxone and fentanyl patches — synthetic opioids — none of which were prescribed to the Crowleys, according to Pelletier.

“Agents were able to determine the Crowleys’ source of supply for their heroin was two people from New York City,” Pelletier said in a release at the time.

Miranda and Ayala each remained at Two Bridges Regional Jail in Wiscasset on Monday afternoon on $50,000 surety or $20,000 cash bail.

No additional information about Travis or Carol Crowley was immediately available.
