HAMPDEN – Elvera K. Irwin “Tippy,” 90, died Sept. 13, 2013, at a Bangor hospital. She was born Oct. 10, 1922, in Kewanee, Ill., to Adolph W. and Clara J. Strand. Elvera was very proud of her Swedish heritage.
Elvera graduated from Weathersfield High School, Illinois, class of 1940. She married the love of her life, Louis F. Irwin on July 15, 1946. They moved to Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., in 1964.
Elvera was predeceased by Louis in March of 1972. Elvera is survived by her daughter, Patricia A. Manning and her husband, Robert F. Manning, of Hampden; grandson, Brian M. Manning and his wife, Michelle A., of Mahopac, N.Y.; and granddaughter, Christine M. (Manning) Sewall and her husband, Levi, of Hermon. Elvera also leaves behind several cherished nieces, nephews, their spouses and families; and her beloved dog and companion, Callie. Special thanks to the staff who cared for Elvera on Grant 6 East at EMMC, the Palliative Care Team, especially, Cosmina Fachiol, MD and the family, friends and colleges that have made this journey easier.
Family and friends are invited to visit 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 17, at Hampden-Gilpatrick Funeral Home, 45 Western Ave., Hampden, where a funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 18. Interment will be at Mount Pleasant Catholic Cemetery’s memorial columbarium. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial gift’s in Elvera’s memory be made to Cancer Care of Maine, care of EMMC foundation, P.O. Box 931, Bangor, ME 04402-0931.
