BREWER, Maine — Police are investigating a report of a suspicious man talking to a 7-year-old girl early Thursday.
A witness called police at approximately 7:45 a.m. and reported that she saw a man in a white station wagon talking to a girl at the intersection of South Main and Elm streets, Brewer Deputy Chief Jason Moffitt said Friday.
The witness stated that she stopped her vehicle and asked the girl if she knew the man, upon which the man drove away towards Bangor, according to Moffitt.
Another person approached the witness after the man drove off, indicating that she knew the child and would contact police, the deputy chief said.
Brewer police searched for the vehicle, an older white station wagon with a “boxy” front end and no rear license plate. Moffitt said the driver is described as a clean-shaven white man in his mid-30s with medium-length dark brown hair parted down the middle.
The girl, who has shoulder-length dark hair, was wearing a pink skirt and white top, Moffitt said. It is not clear whether the girl is a student at Brewer Community School.
Anyone with information should call Brewer police at 989-7001.
