5 fall TV shows to avoid

By Chuck Barney, Contra Costa Times

“What were they thinking?”

Unfortunately, we found ourselves uttering those mournful words way too many times as we lurched our way through this year’s fall crop of new TV shows. So many are duds and outright misfires that it was difficult to determine which ones turned us off the most.

Here are the dubious five that made the cut:

“Dads” (Fox)

We expect a Seth MacFarlane sitcom to push the envelope, but not in such a racially insensitive, sexist, smarmy and unfunny way. Do yourself a favor and save the room on your DVR.

“Super Fun Night” (ABC)

Rebel Wilson deserves much better than this cringe-worthy travesty. At least don’t make her ditch her Aussie accent.

We Are Men” (CBS)

A boring “bro”-com in which the jokes fall flat and the cast just doesn’t gel.

“Betrayal” (ABC)

We just couldn’t bring ourselves to care about the main characters in this slow, dark and leaden soap about a torrid extramarital affair.

“Sean Saves the World” (NBC)

Love Sean Hayes? Avoid this weakly written, overacted sitcom — and stick to “Will & Grace” reruns.
