Severe thunderstorm watches issued throughout the state

GRAY, Maine — The National Weather Service has issued severe thunderstorm watches for much of the state.

The NWS’s Gray office issued warnings for six counties shortly after 2:30 p.m. Wednesday. Hot and humid weather has roasted the state throughout the day.

Warnings are in effect for Androscoggin, Franklin, Kennebec, Oxford, Somerset, Kennebec, Penobscot and Waldo counties until 10 p.m. Wednesday.

Severe weather is also expected in the northern part of the state, as the National Weather Service’s Caribou office has issued watches for Aroostook and Piscataquis counties. Those watches were expected to be in effect no later than 4 p.m.

Forecasted severe weather includes high winds and severe thunderstorms capable of producing hail.
