Rehearsal and audition
BANGOR— The Bangor Area Children’s Choir invites children ages 9 to 18 and their families to a Try-It rehearsal and audition 4-5 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 18, at the First Baptist Church in Bangor.
Organizers said the rehearsal and audition will be an enjoyable informational event where young singers can experience the fun and effort involved with participating in the choir. Parents will meet with other parents and choir board members for an information session.
BANGOR — Literacy Volunteers of Bangor is seeking volunteer tutors willing to work one-on-one with area adults to teach reading and English skills. Becoming a tutor does not require teaching experience or fluency in another language. Patience, an interest in learning about others and a desire to transform an adult’s life through literacy are all that is needed.
Tutor training will begin with an information session, Introduction to Literacy, at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 18, for five weeks, at United Technologies Center, 200 Hogan Road in Bangor.

Eat Well Nutrition Workshops
BANGOR — The University of Maine Cooperative Extension Eat Well Nutrition Workshops, in six sessions, will begin at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 17, at the Extension office at 307 Maine Ave. Class dates are Sept. 17 and 24, Oct. 1, 22 and 29, and Nov. 5.
Each classes runs 60 to 90 minutes and participation in all six classes is required.
Through hands-on activities participants will learn how to save money on groceries, enhance cooking skills, keep foods safe to eat and try new, healthy recipes the whole family will enjoy.
Participants in the workshops also will receive: recipes, a cookbook, tips to help keep families healthy and active, and other incentives at each lesson they attend to help practice at home what is learned at each workshop.
Registration is free to eligible adults with children.

School supplies donated
BREWER — Representatives of the Bangor Area Chapter of the International Association of Administrative Professionals visited Stillwater Academy in Brewer on Aug. 27 to deliver
$100 worth of school supplies donated by the chapter, plus additional supplies donated by
Stillwater Academy staff members Jody Raymond and Sarah Jandreau-Morin said they were delighted with the gifts and expressed appreciation on behalf of their staff and students.
In addition to its annual donation of school supplies, the chapter also collected Box Tops for Education for Stillwater Academy, over the course of several years. The school used the proceeds to purchase an outdoor storage shed.
A service of Community Health and Counseling Services, Stillwater Academy specializes in serving students with autism, pervasive developmental disorders and other developmental disabilities.

Senior citizens Mystery Trip
HAMPDEN — The Hampden Senior Citizens will host a Mystery Trip by bus, leaving at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 2, from the Skehan Center at Old Hampden Academy, Main Road. The cost is $52 and include lunch. Return time will be at approximately 5 p.m. The trip is open to all local senior citizens.

ORONO —The Orono Historical Society will lead a walking tour of its downtown area at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 22. The Heart of Orono tour will provide interesting information on the history of various businesses and sites downtown. The tour will take approximately 1½ hours.
