Achekh’s OT goal lifts UM-Farmington men past UMPI

FARMINGTON, Maine – Sophomore Ibrahim Achekh deflected a Matt Potter throw-in past University of Maine-Presque Isle goalkeeper Caleb Bragg-Grady early in the first overtime period Monday, lifting the University of Maine-Farmington to a 1-0 men’s soccer win at Prescott Field.

The win was the first career victory for new Farmington head coach Tommy DiNuzzo and marked the third straight season the Beavers have posted a win in their opening game.

Barely 30 seconds into OT, Potter’s throw-in to the left of Bragg-Grady was redirected by Achekh.

Derek Reilly made four saves on 13 shots for the Beavers, while Bragg-Grady made four stops on 11 shots for the 1-3 Owls.
