HULLS COVE – Lois Thayer Frazier, formally of Sugartown, Pa., died peacefully at home, Sept. 3, 2013. She was 90 years old.
Beloved wife of 68 years to W. West Frazier IV, mother to the late Lois Hackett of Stowe, Vt., and her husband, Ed Hackett, and W. West Frazier V of Hingham, Mass., and his wife, Christine. She is survived by her sisters, Dodi Vehr of Middleburg, Va., and Polly Maguire and her husband, Robert, of Shoreham Vt. Lois was known as “Get Get” to her grandchildren, Eddie Collins and his wife, Karen, of Boxborough, Mass., Alexander Collins of Oceanside, Calif., and Sydney Frazier of Hingham, Mass.; as well as many nieces, nephews and great-grandchildren.
Lois loved Mount Desert Island where she summered as a child and moved here in 1977 from Pennsylvania. There was not a trail or carriage road she didn’t know. In Pennsylvania she was an avid horsewoman and not only inspired many young people to ride but also instilled in them a love of horses. She was a member of the Garden Club of Mount Desert, the Bar Harbor Garden Club, Bar Harbor Conservation Commission and Bar Harbor Comprehensive Planning Committee. Since the early 80s she was a member of the Wild Gardens of Acadia Committee where she served for 15 years as secretary. Both she and her husband volunteered for many years in the Wild Gardens and at Jesup Memorial Library.
Donations may be made in her memory to the Wild Gardens of Acadia, care of Friends of Acadia, and the Jesup Memorial Library. A celebration of her life will be held next summer.
