Alice B. Hennessey

WHITNEYVILLE – Alice B. Hennessey, a lifetime resident of Washington County, passed away from natural causes, at the age of 92, on Sept. 4, 2013, at Marshall Health Care Facility, Machias.
Alice was born Aug. 27, 1921, to Raymond and Ruby (Davis) White in Jonesport. She grew up in Jonesport, graduating from Jonesport High School. After marrying Edward L. Hennessey Sr., in 1941, they settled in Whitneyville. A widow at a young age, Alice worked many years at the University of Maine in Machias and Down East Community Hospital cafeterias. When she wasn’t working she loved babysitting, spending time with her cats, and visiting with her friends and family. Alice looked forward to visiting with others at senior citizens groups, bingo, and church. She even enjoyed cooking in her free time! Alice’s lifelong friend and sister-in-law, Frances Grover, was her confederate in raising children and on many outings together. In later years, she still kept in touch with friends by visiting on the telephone. Alice will be remembered by her family for her strength, confidence, and independent spirit.
Alice is survived by her son, Edward L. Hennessey Jr. and his partner, Traci Sanborn; grandchildren, Michael Hennessey, Rebecca Hennessey, Mark Hennessey and his fiancée, Tabitha Griffin, Scott Hennessey, and Erin Hennessey; great-grandchildren, Benjamin, Lily, Sarah, Nicholas and Charlotte Hennessey; a special loving niece, Martha Gay and her husband, Harvard; niece, Joanne Albee; nephews, Werden Grover, Stephen Hennessey, William Hennessey, Robert Hennessey, George Hennessey, and John Hennessey; and special friend, Patricia Hennessey. She was predeceased by her husband of 25 years, Edward L. Hennessey Sr.; parents, Raymond and Ruby White; brother-in-law, William Hennessey; and sister-in-law, Frances Grover.
A Rite of Christian Burial and Memorial Mass will begin at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 9, at Holy Name Catholic Church, Free Street, Machias, with the Rev. Father Jack O’Hara as celebrant. Private interment will be held at Longfellow Cemetery, Machias. Arrangements by Bragdon-Kelley Funeral Homes, Machias.
