Woman accused of spitting in officer’s face, charged with assault

By Ryan McLaughlin, BDN Staff

BANGOR, Maine — A report of an assault with a baseball bat led to a Bangor woman going to jail late last month, police said Thursday.

When police arrived to the scene on Union Street shortly before midnight on Aug. 27, Susan Foss, 32, was apparently trying to conceal a baseball bat, according to Bangor police Lt. Paul Edwards.

A victim at the scene said he had been hit in the head by a baseball bat, Edwards said, but as police tried to sort out the situation, racial slurs and obscenities were being screamed.

Foss was the one doing the most screaming, Edwards said, and when the dust settled, she was placed under arrest and charged with disorderly conduct.

An assault charge was added when a handcuffed Foss somehow unbuckled herself in the back seat of a patrol car and spat in an officer’s face, police said.

Foss was brought to Penobscot County Jail and later released.
