‘The Nutcracker’ auditions

BANGOR — Auditions for Robinson Ballet’s “The Nutcracker” will be held Saturday, Sept. 7, at the studio at 107 Union St. Dancers age 9 to 12 audition 11-11:45 a.m.; dancers age 12 to adults audition noon-1:30 p.m. Dancers with pointe experience should attend the noon audition and

bring pointe shoes. Auditions will be run in the form of a classical ballet class. For information, call 990-3140.

 

‘White Christmas’ auditions

BANGOR — Bangor Community Theatre announced that it will partner with Ronald McDonald House of Bangor to stage the holiday-themed musical, Irving Berlin’s “White Christmas.”

The fundraiser will commemorate Ronald McDonald House’s 30th anniversary.

“White Christmas” will be presented Friday through Sunday, Dec. 13, 14, 15, 20, 21 and 22, at The Grand Auditorium in Ellsworth.

Along with a large chorus, “White Christmas” calls for lead actors between the ages of 20 and 65, and one girl age 6 to 12. Roles for four to six male and female dancers between the ages of 16 and 35 also are available.

Auditions will be held:

• 6-9 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 5, Columbia Street Baptist Church.

• 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 7, Columbia Street Baptist Church.

Percussion workshop

ORONO — The University of Maine School of Performing Arts will sponsor a Multiple Percussion and Cymbal Playing Workshop with Nick Petrella 2-4 p.m. Tuesday,  Sept. 10, in room 100 of Class of 1944 Hall.

Petrella, an adjunct assistant professor of percussion at Kansas City Conservatory of Music and Dance, will lead the workshop that will focus on technical and musical development on a variety of percussion instruments. Audience participation and demonstrations will be part of the event, which is free and open to everyone interested in percussion pedagogy and performance.

Theater auditions

WINTERPORT — Winterport Open Stage announced that it will hold auditions for the fall production of Neil Simon’s “The Odd Couple” (Female Version). Roles are available for six women and two men.  Auditions will be held 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 5, at Machias Savings Bank Community Room in Brewer, and 1-3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 7, at the Wagner Middle School in Winterport.

Beatles tribute band

BREWER — Beatles For Sale, a New England Beatles tribute band, announced that it will perform a concert at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 2, at the Brewer Performing Arts Center, 92 Pendeleton St.

Recorder Workshop

ORONO — The third annual Recorder Workshop, hosted by the University of Maine Music Department will be held 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, at Class of 1944 Hall, Room 100, at UMaine. Deborah Booth, recorder virtuoso and teacher, of New York City, will be the instructor.

The morning session will run 9 a.m.- noon for beginner-intermediate level, with check-in at 8:45 a.m. The afternoon session will run 1-4 p.m. for intermediate-advanced level, with check-in at 12:45 p.m. Both sessions include a 30-minute break; snacks and beverages provided. Lunch is on your own.

Musicians may sign up for both classes, with permission of the instructor.

The cost per session is $30 if received by Sept. 14; $40 after that date; $15 to UMaine students with valid ID.

The cost for copies of music used in the workshop is $5, free to UMaine students.

On-site registration may be available but cannot be guaranteed.
