BANGOR, Maine — A local man was arrested early Monday morning after a concerned citizen called Bangor police to report suspicious activity on the city’s east side.

Ryan Lane, 20, of Bangor was charged with two counts of theft and one count each of burglary to a motor vehicle and violation of conditions of release, according to a press release issued by Bangor police.

Just after midnight Monday, Officer Nick Huggins and Sgt. Dave Bushey responded to a report that a suspicious male was going through cars on Parkview Avenue, the press release said. The policemen located Lane carrying plastic bags full of items and began to search them.

A man and woman, who lived in the neighborhood, both claimed ownership of some of the items laid out on the ground, the press release said. The property was returned but Lane reportedly began verbally threatening the victims and was arrested.

Lane remained Monday at the Penobscot County Jail. He is expected Tuesday to make his first court appearance on the charges at the Penobscot Judicial Center.

If convicted, he face up to a year in prison and a fine of up to $2,000 on the charges.

Lt. Paul Edwards in the press release praised the East Side Neighborhood Watch for alerting police to Lane’s suspicious behavior.
