MILLINOCKET, Maine — A 14-year-old girl suffered a serious head injury Friday night when she fell off the tailgate of her parents’ pickup truck near Baxter State Park.

The girl was one of four juveniles riding on the tailgate of the pickup truck at about 4:30 p.m. when the driver pulled out of the Big Moose Campground parking lot onto Millinocket Lake Road, Thomas Malcolm, deputy chief of Millinocket Fire and Ambulance, said Saturday.

The names of the children and the parents, who are from Prince Edward Island, Canada, have not been released.

Three of the juveniles received minor injuries and were treated at the scene, according to Malcolm. The girl was transported first to Millinocket Regional Hospital, then taken by LifeFlight to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor.

Malcolm said Saturday that he had not been updated on the girl’s condition.

The deputy chief said that no charges had been filed against the driver.
