NORTON, Mass. — Wheaton College scored three first-half goals Friday to set the tone for a 5-2 men’s soccer victory over Husson University of Bangor in the mutual season opener for both teams.
Noah Kossoff, Michael Williams and Michael Cronin tallied the first-half goals for Wheaton, while Adam Sholi and Kevin Gil posted goals after intermission. Matt Dickey made two saves.
Jimmy Fitzpatrick scored both goals for the Eagles, with Alain Tuyishime providing an assist. Brian Potter finished with 12 saves.
At Castine, he University of New England and Maine Maritime Academy played 110 minutes of scoreless soccer in a mutual nonconference season opener at Ritchie Field.
MMA outshot UNE 13-10, with Jesse Perkins making one save for the Mariners. Aidan McPartland had seven stops for the Nor’easters.
At Beverly, Mass., Jason Padilla scored off a cross from Sean Neal with 3:32 gone in overtime, lifting William Patterson to victory over Thomas College of Waterville in the first game for both teams.
