FALMOUTH, Maine — A Scarborough woman escaped a crushed Ford Taurus that rolled over after colliding with a truck on Interstate 295 Thursday morning.

The Taurus, driven by 18-year-old Kathleen Pride of Scarborough, was struck by a 2003 Western Star tractor-trailer as both vehicles headed north on I-295, Maine state Trooper Douglas Cropper said.

The driver of the tractor-trailer, Charlie Judkins, 52, of Skowhegan, was passing into the traveling lane when he saw a vehicle come up behind him. As he began to change lanes, he struck Pride’s 2006 Taurus, causing the car to spin out into the grass, flip over and land on its roof in the median after being stopped by guardrail wires, according to Cropper.

Pride was able to unbuckle her seat belt and get out of the vehicle, Cropper said. She was taken to Maine Medical Center in Portland “for observation,” according to the state trooper.

Pride’s vehicle was totaled.

Judkins was uninjured.

There will be no charges, Cropper said, adding, “This was a mistake.”
