By Stephen Betts, BDN Staff

ROCKLAND, Maine — A trial scheduled for Thursday in Rockland District Court for a man accused of having sex with a young girl has been postponed.

William E. Speed, 25, formerly of Rockland and now of Edgecomb, is charged with five counts of sexual abuse of a minor. The complaint states that Speed allegedly had sex with the girl, who was 14 or 15 years old, on five occasions in February and March of this year in Rockland.

The motion to continue was approved Thursday by the court. The motion stated that prosecution and defense attorneys were in plea negotiations.
