ASHLAND – Alicia J. Burby, 89, died peacefully Wednesday morning, Aug. 28, 2013, at her home with her family at her side. She was born Aug. 10, 1924, in Ashland, a daughter of the late Raymond and Martha (Bragdon) Colbath, and was a 1941 graduate of Ashland Community High School.
She worked with her husband as a bookkeeper for the family’s logging business and was a member of the Ashland Senior Citizens. Her favorite hobbies were sewing and knitting, sharing most of her crafts with family and friends. The family wishes to offer special thanks to Donnie, Christina, and Allie Burby, Karen Umphrey, Ruth Collins and Kathy Dubois of Hospice of Aroostook for their devoted care and support during these difficult times.
She is survived by seven sons, Floyd Burby and his wife, Gloria, of Caribou, Norman Burby of Mapleton, Larry Burby and his wife, Susan, Perley Burby and his wife, Gayle, Donnie Burby and his wife, Christina, Roger Burby, all of Ashland, and Douglas Burby and his wife, Clara of Masardis; five daughters, Frances Burby Condon and her husband, Ted, of Portage Lake, Althea Burby Mowerson of Colorado, Susan Burby Smart and her husband, Fred, of Presque Isle, Bonnie Burby Chapuis and her husband, Ron, of Maryland, and Julie Burby Belanger and her husband, Ronnie, of Ashland; two brothers, Ruel Colbath of Castle Hill, and Darrell Colbath of Georgia; three sisters, Sandra McHatten of Castle Hill, Maxine Schell of Alaska, and Marguerite Haines of Winthrop; 40 grandchildren; 75 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Ellery Burby in 1992; an infant daughter, Donna; a son, Robbie; and two grandsons, Jason Hafford and Floyd Burby Jr.
There will be no visiting hours. A Celebration of Life will be held graveside at 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 30, at Ashland Municipal Cemetery.
