WATERVILLE, Maine — A vacant house on Elm Court was destroyed by fire on Sunday morning, and officials are considering the blaze suspicious.

Waterville Fire Chief David LaFountain said there was a report of a vehicle leaving the scene at 5 Elm Court minutes before the blaze broke out at 1:22 a.m.

LaFountain said the fire started on the first floor in the rear of the house. Deutsche Bank owns the property.

The fire chief said it is unclear who the previous owner of the property was.

It took firefighters from Waterville, Winslow, Fairfield, Oakland and Sidney three hours to get the fire under control, LaFountain said.

The state fire marshal’s office is investigating the blaze further, LaFountain said.
