PORTLAND, Maine — Portland police are seeking the public’s help in tracking down a man they believe is behind a string of recent burglaries in the city.

Lt. James Sweatt of the Portland Police Department on Monday afternoon issued an announcement saying investigators are looking for David Michael Ferrar, 23, of Portland. Police describe Ferrar as a white male, 6 feet, 1 inch tall, weighing approximately 180 pounds.

He has short brown hair and brown eyes, Sweatt wrote.

“Ferrar is wanted in connection with violations of probation and is a person of interest in connection with recent residential burglaries in Portland,” Sweatt wrote, in part. “Ferrar may be traveling on a bicycle through various residential areas from downtown Portland to the outer Forest [Avenue] area. Ferrar may be using railroad right of ways to travel through local neighborhoods.”

People who have seen Ferrar are urged to contact the Police Department by calling 874-8584, submitting a tip through the website www.portland-police.com, or texting the keyword “GOTCHA” and a message to 274637.
