THOMASTON, Maine — One of Thomaston’s two representatives on the Regional School Unit 13 board plans to step down later this year.

Arvilla Collins turned in her resignation to the Thomaston Board of Selectmen, which will consider Collins’ resignation at its Monday night meeting. The resignation is effective Nov. 6.

Collins said she and her husband, Michael, will be spending winters in Florida.

Collins first was elected to the RSU 13 board in June 2010 but was cut from the board in August 2011 when reapportionment occurred and Thomaston lost one of its three seats. She was elected again in June 2012.

She serves on the board’s personnel and negotiations, facilities and transportation, and finance committees.

The Board of Selectmen will appoint a replacement for Collins when the seat becomes vacant. That appointment will run until the next annual town meeting in June.

People interested in serving can contact the board or town office.

Collins said Monday she is disappointed she will not continue to serve on the regional school board as it works to consolidate buildings. She praised the board for the hard work it has done.
