NEWPORT, Maine — Police are still tracking down leads in the search for a man who allegedly robbed a Newport bank earlier this month.

The Newport Police Department and the FBI are investigating a bank robbery at Key Bank on Aug. 15, in which a white male entered the bank on Main Street along Route 2 at about 2:15 p.m. He demanded money and left with an undisclosed amount of cash.

“Any help the public can give us, we would highly appreciate it,” Newport Police Chief Leonard Macdaid said on Monday. “We’re still working on leads.”

Macdaid would not say whether the man displayed a weapon.

The suspect is described as a 5-foot-10-inch white male with average build. He was last seen wearing a baseball cap, dark blue shirt with a collar and blue jeans. He has a thick black beard and mustache.

The man may have left in a small, older-model blue vehicle, he said.

Anyone with information on the robbery or the suspect is asked to call the Newport Police Department at 368-3263.
