Portland police investigate death of man found in downtown street

PORTLAND, Maine — Police are investigating the death of a man whose body was found in the middle of Free Street this weekend, according to the Portland Press Herald.

Police had blocked off the roadway Sunday afternoon, the Press Herald reported. Portland police Lt. Robert Doherty said officials believe the man either jumped or fell from the six-story parking garage at the lower end of Free Street.

Police to not know the identity of the man, and Doherty said the case is an active criminal investigation.
