Richard L. Morang

HARRINGTON – Richard L. Morang Sr., 84, died on Aug. 16, 2013, at The Grace Home in Harrington. Born March 5, 1929, Dick was raised in Jonesport, to Herbert Sr. and Emma (Carver) Morang. Dick was raised and attented school in Jonesport.
After high school he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. He was stationed in Korea, Salina, Kan., and Presque Isle. While in the service he married Phyllis McCaslin from Harrington, they raised two children, Dickie Lee and Cindy.
Dick worked locally on sardine carriers, and in Bar Harbor at Jackson Lab, and then at the University of Connecticut doing cancer research.
In 1971 he returned to Maine where he built and operated Ocean Spray Cottages and also dug worms. Dick enjoyed chocolate, gardening and horseracing. He traveled many miles with Keith, Ralph, Lonnie and Danny.
In his later years “Grampa Dick” enjoyed reminiscing at the supper table at The Grace Home with “the gang.” Many hours of antics and stories were shared.
He was predeceased by his wife, Phyillis; son, Dickie Lee; granddaughter-in-law, Lindsay; brother, Herbert Jr.; sisters, Daphene Crowley and Lucille (Teelie) Urquhart; and sister-in-law, Ila (Grass) Morang.
Dick is survived by his daughter, Cindy and Mark Strout of Harrington; grandchildren, Lori and Brandon, Shawn and LeaAnn of Ohio, Jeff and April, Steve and Maria, Scott and Tara of Harrington; great-grandchildren, Attison, Seamus, Jack, Claire, Shawna, Rebecca, Ella, Hannah, Cassandra, Sydney, Ripley, Hunter, Ashley, Anna, Evan and Baylee; nieces and nephews, Jeannie, Judy, Jessie, Jane, Keith “Ubbie,” Jimmy, Carol, Cathy and Chris; cousin, Philip and family, Evelyn, Joyce, Phyllis and Judy; brothers-in-law, Keith Crowley and Adelmar (Tuddy) Urquhart.
A very special “thank you” to The Grace Home Staff for their years of care, love and kindness. You are forever in our hearts.
A graveside service will be held 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 13, at Pinkham Cemetery, Fryeville.
