AUGUSTA, Maine — Brig. Gen. James D. Campbell, adjutant general for Maine, announced the promotion to the designated rank specified for these national guard members:

• Tracey Ruhlin, sergeant 1st class, Brewer, Joint Force Headquarters.

• Von Parent, specialist, Bangor, 185th Engineer Support Company.

All were promoted in July.


Marine Corps League

BANGOR, Maine — Members of Marine Corps League Greater Bangor Area Detachment 1151 AND fellow veterans left on June 19 for a four-day visit to the Washington, D.C.- Quantico, Va., area.

Among the many sights they saw were the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, WWII Memorial, Korean Memorial, Martin Luther King Memorial, The Smithsonian Museum, Navy Memorial, Lincoln Memorial and the Marine Corps Museum.

Highlights of the trip included a tour of the Capitol and a meeting with U.S. Sen. Susan Collins, and a brief encounter with former Secretary of State and Joint Chief of Staff Colin Powell during a book signing at the Marine Corps Exchange.

Although mostly self-funded, the veterans received a financial donation for transportation expenses from the Cole Land Transportation Museum.
