BRUNSWICK, Maine — A 31-year-old Brunswick man was arrested and charged with operating after suspension and refusing to submit to arrest after officers chased him on foot through woods and backyards Tuesday in downtown Brunswick.

Officer Patrick Scott stopped a car driven by Adam Fickett just before 5 p.m. on Mill Street, but when Scott approached the car, Fickett drove off, according to Deputy Chief Marc Hagan of the Brunswick Police Department.

Scott pursued the vehicle westbound onto Pleasant Street and Lombard Street, where Fickett jumped from his car and ran into nearby woods. Scott followed him through a gully and over several fences, attempting to shoot a Taser at Fickett, before he and other officers subdued the fleeing man on Stanwood Street, Hagan said.

Fickett remained in Cumberland County Jail on Wednesday morning, held on $2,000 bail pending a court appearance Wednesday afternoon.
