LIMESTONE – Albert Joseph “Joe” Grivois, 85, husband of the late Regina T. (Lizotte) Grivois, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family Saturday morning, Aug. 17, 2013, at a Caribou health care facility, after a brief illness. He was born April 25, 1928, in Grand Isle, the son of Clovis and Anna (Sirois) Grivois.
Joe volunteered for the U.S. Army at the age of 17 near the end of World War II, following in the footsteps of his five brothers that served our country. Upon his discharge from the military, Joe attended Husson College for two years. He then moved to Limestone and worked at Cyr’s Department Store for many years. He was married to Regina T. Lizotte on June 12, 1951, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus 3rd degree, Limestone, and the 4th degree Knights of Columbus, No. 2425, Presque Isle. Joe had also been a member and past commander of the Disabled American Veterans, Limestone Chapter No. 9. Joe spent many pleasant evenings playing bingo, cribbage and “charlamange.” He was especially fond of “playing the ponies” at the summer fair. He and Regina relished many evenings “cutting the rug” and we’re known to be show stoppers by taking up the dance floor.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Grivois was predeceased by his wife, Regina on Nov. 22, 1978; five brothers, Clifford, Andrew, Emery, John and Gerard Grivois; and one sister, Doris Theriault. Joe was the proud father of five sons and one daughter, David Grivois and his wife, Dortha, of Presque Isle, Robert Grivois and his wife, Rachel, of Hermon, Jeffrey Grivois and wife, Sharon, Keith Grivois and companion, Debbie Hathaway, Kirk Grivois and his wife, Ginger and Wanda Glovins and her husband, York, all of Presque Isle. He is also survived by one brother, George Grivois and his wife, Verna, of East Hartford, Conn.; and one sister, Jeannine Bouchard and her husband, Joel, of Madawaska. Joe also leaves behind ten beloved grandchildren, Bryan and Jessica Grivois, Jennifer and Kerry Crandall, Craig and Danna LaBarre, Nichol and Jake Archer, Andrew Grivois, Eric Grivois, Chelsea and Jared Buck, Kristen Anderson, Amy Griovis and John Grivois. Especially treasured by Joe were his great-grandchildren, Riley Grivois, Cora Crandall, Reagan Grivois, Gwen Crandall, Aiden Philbrick, Skylar Grivois, Darren LaBarre, Kaila LaBarre, Aryanna Grivois and Wylder Archer; and several nieces and nephews.
In keeping with Joe’s wishes, there will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 21, at Parish of the Precious Blood, St. Louis Catholic Church, Main Street, Limestone, with Father Jean-Paul Labrie, celebrant. A time of continued fellowship with refreshments will be held after the service in the church reception area. Interment with military honors will be held at St. David Catholic Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may contribute in memory of Mr. Grivois to the Limestone-Caswell Historical Society, care of Robert King, 38 Leighton Ave., Limestone, ME 04750. Envelopes will be available at the service. Arrangements have been entrusted to Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main St., Fort Fairfield.
