BERWICK, Maine — Police have been investigating the theft of a Fisher snow plow, valued at $6,200, that was stolen in January, and are now saying the incident involves Robert Amado, 42, and Christopher Bromley, 31, both Boston, Mass., area residents.
Detective Bill Russell said that on the afternoon of Jan. 6, law enforcement officials pinpointed Amado having been in town on Coffin Lane, and that same night a Fisher snow plow was stolen from a local business on Coffin Lane. Russell said the two men had been crossing multiple state lines stealing numerous pieces of expensive, heavy equipment.
Russell added that during the investigation, Amado became aware authorities interviewed two witnesses in connection with this case, and allegedly threatened and instructed them not to speak to authorities.
Amado and Bromley were arrested April 11 by Massachusetts State Police for the crimes they committed in that state. Amado and Bromley were arraigned in Wareham District Court. Bail was set at $25,000 for Amado and $2,500 bail for Bromley. They are both scheduled to be arraigned in Plymouth Superior Court at a later date.
Additionally, Amado was indicted on Thursday, Aug. 8, in Boston on 10 counts of larceny and two counts of witness intimidation. Bromley was also indicted on Thursday, Aug. 8 for eight counts of larceny. Both men face a up to 20 years in prison in Massachusetts.
Police officials say due to the complexity and seriousness of these charges, Berwick police waited until the Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office was complete with its investigation to move forward with the local theft charges. Russell said in the coming weeks he will be finishing up on the case against the two suspects and applying for State of Maine arrest warrants.
